Before you get started

  • You must be a Google Workspace administrator or have the Project Deleter role (resourcemanager.projects.delete) on the project.

  • The project must not have an active Cloud Billing account linked (you need to unlink billing first).

  • Shut down or delete any paid resources (e.g., VMs, Cloud SQL instances, GKE clusters) to avoid lingering charges.

Sign in to Google Cloud Console

  1. Sign in with your Google Workspace account that has sufficient permissions.

  2. At the top of the page, click the project picker.

  3. Choose the project you want to delete.

Shut Down Paid Resources (Recommended)

  1. Go to Navigation menu ☰ > Billing.

  2. If a billing account is linked, click Unlink billing or Close billing account (if no other projects use it).

  3. Navigate to each product (Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, etc.) and delete or stop running resources.

Shut Down the Project (Required Before Deletion)

  1. From the Navigation menu ☰, go to IAM & Admin > Settings (or directly visit: https://console.cloud.google.com/iam-admin/settings)

  2. On the Settings page, click Shut down.

  3. Type the project ID to confirm.

  4. Click Shut down anyway.

    • The project enters a 30-day “deletion pending” period (7 days for some older projects).

    • During this period, the project can still be restored.

Permanently Delete the Project

Google Cloud automatically deletes the project after the waiting period (usually 30 days). If you need to delete it immediately or confirm deletion:

  1. Wait for the project to enter the “Scheduled for deletion” state.

  2. Go to IAM & Admin > Manage Resources

  3. Check the box next to your project.

  4. Click Delete at the top.

  5. Type the project ID and confirm.

And that's it! You've successfully deleted your Google Workspace project 🎉
