How to Install the Defense.com Threat Analysis Extension in Claude Desktop

This guide walks you through setting up the Defense.com Threat Analysis extension directly from Claude Desktop’s built-in extension directory

Defense.com's threat analysis extension for Claude, allows you to quickly integrate Claude desktop with Defense.com to enable you to query your threat data, build easy-to-understand reports and manage your threats fast.

Prerequisites

  • Claude Desktop app installed (latest version recommended)

  • An active Defense.com account with API access

Installing Claude desktop

  1. Download the version for your operating system (macOS or Windows).

  2. Run the installer and complete the setup.

  3. Open Claude Desktop and sign in with your Anthropic account.

Generating your Defense.com API token

  1. Log in to your Defense.com account as a Company Admin.

  2. Select Account from the navigation on the left-hand side.

  3. Next, click API Keys.

  4. In the top-right-hand corner click + Create API Key.

  5. You'll then be presented with the API Key form where you'll need to set a Label, Give it a clear name (e.g., “Claude Desktop Integration”).

  6. Set an Expires at date and select the scope, Read.

  7. Once complete, click Create API key to finish the setup.

  8. Your new API key will be created and displayed. Make sure you copy and save your new key as you won't be able to access it again.

Installing the extension

  1. Open Claude Desktop.

  2. Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the bottom-left corner to open Settings.

  3. In the left menu, select Extensions.

  4. Click Browse extensions (or Browse Directory).

  5. In the search bar at the top, type: Defense.com

  6. Find Defense.com Threat Analysis

  7. Click Install.

  8. When prompted, paste your Defense.com API Token.

  9. Review the requested permissions and click Confirm or Install.

The extension will install and activate automatically.

Testing the extension

Try the following example prompts in a new chat:

  • “Show me the top 5 high-priority threats from my Defense.com account.”

  • “Give me a summary of recent threats and risk levels.”

  • “Who in my team has the most open threats right now?”

  • “Create a short security awareness training module on ransomware.”

  • “Perform a threat intelligence lookup on IP address 185.XX.XX.XX”

And that's it! You've now installed the Defense.com Threat Analysis Extension in Claude Desktop 🎉
